Heartbreaking Collision: 10 Dead, 7 Injured on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
In a devastating incident that unfolded on the popular Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a collision between two vehicles claimed the lives of 10 passengers, casting a somber shadow over this Tuesday morning.
The heart-wrenching accident happened at approximately 5 am near the Kara Turning, towards the Interchange section of the highway. According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command in Ogun State, the collision involved an ash-coloured Toyota Haice Bus with the registration plate FKY898YF and an orange-coloured Iveco Truck Tipper.
Of the 18 male adults involved in the crash, seven sustained injuries, and sadly, 10 lost their lives. The FRSC suspects that excessive speed played a pivotal role in causing the tragedy, as the bus lost control and collided with the tipper, which was negotiating a turn.
Florence Okpe provided further details, stating, “The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital for medical attention while the deceased were transported to Idera Morgue, Sagamu.” She also conveyed the deep regret of Sector Commander Anthony Uga, who expressed anguish over the avoidable nature of the crash. Uga emphasized the importance of drivers taking a 15-minute rest for every four-hour drive, highlighting fatigue as a significant contributor to road traffic accidents.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for caution and adherence to safety measures on our roadways. As investigations unfold, authorities continue to stress the importance of responsible driving to avert such tragic occurrences in the future.
