Gunmen Kill Two Chinese Nationals, Police Escort in Abia Ambush
Tragedy struck in Abia State on Friday as two Chinese nationals and a police escort were killed during an ambush by unidentified gunmen. The victims were part of a convoy heading to a quarry site located at Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
The armed assailants opened fire on the group around 5:30 p.m., killing the Chinese workers—identified as Mr. Quan and Mr. Cai—and Inspector Audu Saidu, one of the police escorts. The attackers also made away with Inspector Saidu’s AK-47 rifle before fleeing the scene.
Confirming the incident, Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, said that a joint security operation involving the police, military, and other sister agencies was launched immediately after the attack. Four victims, including three Chinese nationals and two police officers, were successfully rescued. One Chinese worker and a police officer, Inspector Uba Ahmed, sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Abakaliki.
According to Chinaka, the tactical team visited the crime scene on Saturday as part of continued efforts to apprehend the attackers and ensure the safety of others in the area. As part of the ongoing operations, another police officer, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday, was also rescued unharmed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has pledged that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. He urged residents of Abia State to remain calm, security conscious, and to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity or individuals. The police also released emergency contact numbers for the public to share any relevant information: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, and 08079210006.
