Gunmen kill APC chieftain in Bayelsa State
Unknown gunmen have murdered a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Sunday Frank-Oputu at his Baybridge residence in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State Capital.
Frank-Oputu who belonged to the Bayelsa State APC faction of former Agric Minister, Heineken Lokpobiri, which is opposed to the faction led by Petroleum Minister, Timipre Sylva was shot through the window of his three bedroom apartment while in bed.
The motive behind the killing of the politician reported to be in his early fifties is yet to be determined, although speculations have hovered around his political engagements and a tussle to rid his hometown, Igbomotoru in Southern Ijaw of the grip of illegal oil Bunkerers.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, Ben Nnebolisa through his Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Buswat said despite being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Sunday Frank-Oputu was not able to make it and was confirmed dead.
According to him, the corpse has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for auptosy.
The Police Commissioner said he has charged his men to intensify efforts at unmasking the killers and called anyone with useful information to assist the police.
