Gunmen Kill 32-Year-Old Man in Enugu’s Independence Layout
Tragedy struck in Enugu last week as unidentified gunmen shot and killed a 32-year-old man, Ndubuisi Udutchay, popularly known as “Dubby.” The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, July 3, in the Independence Layout area of the state capital.
According to reports, Udutchay had recently relocated to Abuja and was visiting Enugu to retrieve his car when the attack happened. He was rushed to Parklane Hospital following the shooting but died from his injuries the next day, on Friday, July 4.
The incident has sparked outrage and sorrow among friends, family, and members of the local community. Confirming the news in a heartfelt Facebook post on July 7, Hon. Comr. Nwachukwu Okpala described Dubby as a “bright and promising young man whose life was cruelly cut short.”
“Dubby had just begun a new chapter in Abuja, full of hope and vision for the future,” Okpala wrote. “He traveled back to Enugu to bring his vehicle but met with a brutal end that has left so many shattered.”
Okpala also pointed to the broader issues of insecurity in the Southeast and the nation’s struggling healthcare system, which he said failed to provide the critical care Dubby needed in his final hours.
The tragic killing has reignited public concern over growing violence in the region, where similar attacks by unknown gunmen have continued to make headlines.
As investigations into the incident continue, calls for justice and improved security have intensified, with many urging the authorities to take swift and decisive action.
Dubby Udutchay is remembered as a young man full of promise and ambition. He is survived by grieving family members, including his brother, Comr. Engr. Odera Udutchay, and many loved ones who say his memory will never be forgotten.
May his soul rest in peace.
