Gunmen Attack Church in Kebbi, Abduct Worshippers During Sunday Service
Worshippers in Zagami village, located in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, were thrown into chaos on Sunday when armed men believed to be members of the Lakurawa gang stormed a church during morning service and abducted several congregants.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire indiscriminately as they invaded the church, disrupting the service and sparking panic. The attackers reportedly whisked away an unknown number of worshippers into the surrounding forest.
A survivor of the incident, Mr. Ezekiel Danjuma, described the scene as terrifying, noting that the gunmen came in large numbers and surrounded the church before forcing their way inside. “They came shooting and forced their way into the church. Some of us managed to escape through the back, but they took many people with them,” he recounted.
The attack has left residents of Zagami — a quiet farming community in the Kebbi South Senatorial District — in fear and mourning. As of the time of this report, police authorities have not released an official statement. Meanwhile, locals are urging the Kebbi State Government and security agencies to take swift action to rescue the abducted worshippers and enhance security in the region to forestall future incidents.
