Gunmen Abduct Edo PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi After Meeting with Governor Obaseki
Gunmen have abducted Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The incident occurred shortly after Aziegbemi’s meeting with the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in Benin City.
Although official commentary from the state police is pending, the Edo State Government has confirmed the abduction. The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, issued a statement on Saturday, affirming the government’s efforts to secure Aziegbemi’s release.
Nehikhare stated, “The Government is working closely with security agencies to ensure his safe release and return to his family.” He also highlighted increased surveillance and reinforced security measures across the state to address criminal activities.
Residents were urged to report any suspicious activities and assured of the government’s dedication to their safety. Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command, through spokesman Chidi Nwabuzor, indicated that an official statement regarding the incident would be forthcoming, yet refrained from confirming or debunking the abduction.
