Group Urges Gov. Sule Not to Appeal Tribunal Judgment
The David Ombugadu campaign organization has issued a statement advising Governor Abdullahi Sule to reconsider any plans for appealing the recent majority judgment of the state governorship election petition tribunal, which effectively nullified his election victory.
In the statement released on Monday by Mike Omeri, the Director of Media and Publicity for the organization, it was emphasized that the electoral mandate given to Mr. Ombugadu by the people of Nasarawa state was unquestionable.
While acknowledging Governor Abdullahi Sule’s right to appeal the tribunal’s judgment, Omeri urged him to abandon the idea, asserting that the people’s electoral mandate for Dr. Ombugadu was unequivocal.
“We extend a hand of friendship to all our political opponents to join us and recover Nasarawa State from the brink in order to discover a pathway for peace, security, and sustainable development of the state,” he stated.
The election petition tribunal, sitting in Lafia, recently nullified Governor Sule’s victory as governor of Nasarawa State, declaring Mr. Ombugadu, the candidate of the PDP, as the rightful winner of the poll. During the ruling, two of the justices upheld Mr. Ombugadu’s victory, while one judge dissented.
In his statement, Mr. Omeri commended the tribunal for its meticulous and impartial consideration of the evidence presented, which ultimately led to this historic and landmark decision.
“The ruling of the tribunal highlights the determination of a broad spectrum of the people of Nasarawa State to seek and secure justice from those who attempted to usurp our electoral mandate,” he remarked.
Mr. Omeri further highlighted that Mr. Ombugadu’s unwavering commitment to serving the people of Nasarawa State had been vindicated throughout this legal battle. He praised the supporters and legal team for their unwavering dedication, believing that this victory strengthens the democratic aspirations of the people of Nasarawa State.
“We wish to express our profound appreciation to the teeming supporters and well-wishers of Dr. David Ombugadu who stood by him with unwavering loyalty and determination,” he said.
Finally, Mr. Omeri assured that the PDP and its candidate, Dr. David Ombugadu, remained committed to the principles of good governance, inclusivity, and service to the people of Nasarawa State.
