“Governor Mutfwang Shows Selective Empathy, Marginalises Us” – Plateau Muslim Indigenes Cry Out
The Plateau State Muslim Indigenes (PSMI) have accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of marginalisation and displaying selective empathy in the aftermath of recent violent attacks in the state.
In a statement released on Monday by the group’s Secretary General, Alhaji Kabiru Gwamlar, PSMI expressed concern over the Governor’s perceived silence following deadly assaults in Wase and Kanam local government areas, where over 70 vigilante personnel were reportedly killed and multiple villages destroyed.
The group criticized Governor Mutfwang for not visiting the affected Muslim communities or publicly commiserating with the bereaved families, describing his response as “belated and half-hearted.”
Gwamlar alleged a pattern in the Governor’s reactions to violence, stating that Mutfwang is often swift and vocal in condemning attacks on Christian communities, but slow to respond when Muslim communities suffer similar tragedies.
“We urge Governor Mutfwang to uphold his constitutional promise to protect all citizens, regardless of tribe or religion,” Gwamlar said.
The group also challenged the long-standing perception of Plateau State as a Christian-dominated region. “Nigeria is a secular state, and no part of it should be seen as the exclusive domain of any religion,” Gwamlar added, stressing the right of Muslims, Christians, and adherents of traditional religions to practice their faith freely across the country.
PSMI commended former Governor Simon Lalong for what they described as inclusive governance and urged the current administration to emulate his example in fostering unity and equal representation.
