The Mistake Nigeria Made with Boko Haram, Other Non-State Actors – Gov Mutfwang
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has emphasized the urgent need for Nigeria to curb the growing influence of non-state actors, describing it as a major mistake that the country must rectify. Speaking at the unveiling of attack drones and testing of locally manufactured bombs at Briech UAS headquarters in Kuje, Abuja, he called on leaders and security stakeholders to prevent any group from possessing capabilities that rival or surpass those of state security agencies.
Mutfwang commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their professionalism and efficiency, particularly in restoring peace to Plateau State. He highlighted the role of technology in enhancing security efforts and noted that Plateau has partnered with Briech UAS to deploy advanced surveillance and defense tools, leading to significant improvements in security operations on the ground.
Reflecting on the persistent threat of terrorism, particularly in the North-East, where insurgents have used explosives and landmines for over a decade, Mutfwang stressed the importance of local collaboration in security technology. He urged stakeholders to prioritize partnerships with indigenous companies to reduce reliance on foreign sources, which often come with challenges and restrictions.
The governor welcomed the advancements made by Briech UAS, emphasizing that strategic investment in homegrown technology is essential for Nigeria’s security. He expressed confidence that such initiatives would strengthen the country’s defense capabilities without external dependencies, ensuring that security forces maintain an upper hand over insurgents and other non-state actors.
