Governor Mbah Vows Justice in Response to Nimbo Killings
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has declared a state of intolerance toward violence following the killing of four residents in Nimbo, a community in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, by gunmen. During his visit to the crime scene, the governor assured the community that the perpetrators would be tracked down and brought to justice.
Governor Mbah described the attack as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that his administration would work tirelessly to ensure that the community’s safety is restored. He stated that the incident was a collective tragedy for the entire state, adding that his government would collaborate with local and security stakeholders to prevent such violence from occurring again.
The governor’s visit was accompanied by Enugu’s top security officials, including the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu; State Security Services Director, Theresa Egbunu; and Brigadier General Murtala Abu, Garrison Commander, 82 Division, Nigerian Army.
Mbah assured the residents of Nimbo that the state government would deploy all necessary resources to bring peace back to the area. He stressed the importance of community security, stating, “The primary purpose of government is to guarantee the security and welfare of its citizens.” The governor also promised to cover the medical expenses of the victims and offer scholarships and job opportunities to their families.
During an interactive session with community leaders and members, Governor Mbah received recommendations for improving local security. These included calls for greater representation in government and the strengthening of local security resources like Forest Guards and Neighborhood Watch teams. He committed to addressing these needs, saying, “Your voice has been heard.”
Nimbo’s President-General, Mr. Clement Akachukwu, expressed gratitude for the governor’s prompt response and reiterated the community’s plea for enhanced local security. He explained that the attackers frequently came from neighboring states, exploiting the remote location of Nimbo. Akachukwu also emphasized the need for consistent government support to prevent future attacks and ensure ongoing safety.
Governor Mbah’s visit to Nimbo serves as a clear message that violence will not be tolerated, and those responsible will face the full force of the law. His vow to bolster community security and his commitment to supporting the victims’ families represent a step toward healing and ensuring such tragedies do not repeat.
