Governor Makinde Reacts to Ibadan Stampede That Claimed Several Lives, Promises Justice
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede that occurred earlier today at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan. The incident, which took place during a festive event organized for families, resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
In a statement, the governor described the tragedy as a heartbreaking day for Oyo State. “We sympathize with the parents whose joy has suddenly been turned to mourning due to these deaths,” he said, offering condolences to the grieving families.
Governor Makinde assured residents that immediate steps have been taken to prevent further casualties. Security agents have been deployed to restore order at the venue, while medical personnel and ambulances were sent to provide assistance. The event was halted, and attendees were escorted out of the premises to ensure safety.
The governor also confirmed that the primary organizers of the event have been taken into custody as investigations into the cause of the stampede continue. He vowed that anyone found directly or indirectly responsible for the disaster would be held accountable.
“I want to reassure our people that anyone directly or remotely involved in this disaster will be held accountable,” he stated.
The governor urged residents to remain calm as security agencies carry out their investigations. He also extended his thoughts to the families affected by the tragedy, praying for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.
