Court Orders Remand of Ooni’s Ex-Queen, Others Over Fatal Ibadan Stampede
The Chief Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has ordered the remand of Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, former wife of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, owner of Agidigbo FM; and Fasasi Abdulahi, Principal of Bashorun Islamic High School, at the Agodi Correctional Facility. The decision awaits legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
The trio faced a four-count charge including conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligence leading to harm, and failure to ensure proper security and medical provisions. Their arraignment follows the tragic stampede at an event in Ibadan that left multiple casualties.
The court proceedings drew significant attention, with a heavy security presence deployed to maintain order. Supporters of Oriyomi Hamzat gathered outside the court, creating a tense atmosphere that nearly escalated as police vehicles transported the accused away from the premises.
