Governor Kefas Appoints 573 Additional Political Aides in Taraba State

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved the appointment of 573 new political aides. The announcement came through a statement issued by Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps, the Secretary to the State Government, in the early hours of Tuesday.

The state, now with a total of 707 special aides excluding commissioners, sees these new appointees filling roles such as Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, Special Advisers, and Community Special Assistants, among others. This expansion follows a previous appointment of 134 aides who are yet to be assigned specific responsibilities.

While the governor’s office maintains that these appointments are aimed at enhancing governance, reactions from residents have been mixed. Some express concerns over the necessity and economic prudence of such a large-scale hiring amidst current financial challenges.

A party chieftain, speaking anonymously, criticized the move, labeling it as unnecessary and unlikely to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state. “With the current economic hardship, I don’t personally welcome the idea of engaging the services of such a large number of political aides,” the chieftain remarked.

Governor Kefas has defended the appointments as integral to his administration’s efforts to improve governance and public service delivery across Taraba State.
