Governor Fubara: ‘PDP Has Failed Us, We Now Operate As A Movement’
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has publicly denounced the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party has failed both him and his supporters within the state. Elected under the PDP just a year ago, Governor Fubara voiced his disillusionment during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Privatisation, led by Senator Orji Kalu, at the Port Harcourt Government House.
Acknowledging Senator Abba Moro, a senior PDP figure, Fubara humorously defied party protocols, emphasizing that the PDP had let down the people of Rivers State. He announced that he and his supporters now operate as a movement dedicated to defending democracy, distancing themselves from traditional party affiliations.
The governor’s critique comes amidst a backdrop of political turmoil exacerbated by recent events. Following the attempted detonation of an explosive device at the Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Fubara highlighted the incident as a catalyst for advocating a state of emergency in the state. The failed attack targeted a facility hosting high-profile guests, including members of the Senate committee.
In response to the incident, Governor Fubara criticized what he perceived as a lack of swift legal action against offenders, suggesting impunity in the face of justice. He underscored his commitment not to engage in personal conflict but to protect the interests of Rivers State residents from those who would threaten their safety and autonomy.
Fubara concluded with a strong assertion, stating, “I am not fighting anybody, but I am defending the state against predators and safeguarding the interests of our people from those who think they can dictate our lives.”
