Governor Alia Sacks Entire Cabinet, Appoints New Chief of Staff

The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the Benue State Executive Council, effectively terminating the appointments of all serving Commissioners. This was made known in an official statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the dissolution was announced at the conclusion of the 12th Executive Council meeting held in 2025. The Governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioners for their contributions over the past two years and encouraged those not reappointed to remain committed to the party and continue to work with the system.

Alongside the dissolution, Governor Alia appointed Barrister Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff. According to the statement, Barr. Atagher is a former two-term Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Benue State, as well as a former acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank. His appointment takes immediate effect.

The statement further clarified that the dissolution affects only Commissioners and does not extend to other appointees. Former Commissioners are expected to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective Ministries without delay.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing Commissioners, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve. “At every stage in life, everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you,” he said.
