Gov Fubara to Inaugurate Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff, Five Special Advisers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalyi Fubara, is set to administer the oath of office to former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, as his Chief of Staff, alongside five special advisers today, January 29, 2024.

The official announcement of Ehie’s appointment as Chief of Staff was made through a statement issued by Dr Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, late Sunday night.

Ehie’s elevation to the position of Chief of Staff resolves the speculations surrounding his political trajectory following his voluntary resignation from the Rivers State House of Assembly. He previously led a faction of the Assembly aligned with Governor Fubara during a period of political turmoil.

The appointment, shrouded in anticipation since Ehie’s resignation, is seen as a significant step in stabilizing the political landscape in Rivers State. Speculations suggest that his resignation might have been a crucial component of a peace arrangement facilitated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve the political standoff between Governor Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.

In addition to Edison Ehie, Governor Fubara will also swear in a group of special advisers, including Dr. Darlington Orji, former State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recently resigned as the Chief of Staff of Ikwerre Local Government Council Area.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House at 11:00 am, following the seating of the newly appointed Chief of Staff, special advisers, and invited guests at 10:30 am.
