Gov Fubara Revokes Wike’s 10,000 Job Approvals, Promises Fresh Transparent Recruitment

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has canceled the employment of 10,000 individuals approved by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, citing significant flaws in the recruitment process. Fubara announced that a new, more transparent recruitment drive would be initiated shortly.

Former Governor Wike had sanctioned the immediate hiring of thousands of youths to fill existing vacancies within the state’s civil service before leaving office. However, during an interactive session with stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Friday, Fubara disclosed that the process was compromised by those responsible for its execution.

Fubara expressed disappointment over the flawed recruitment process, highlighting that many selected candidates were chosen through political favoritism. “We discovered that about 60 percent of the names from the 23 local government areas were over-aged and included due to political patronage,” he said.

Fubara criticized the previous administration’s approach, stating, “It is unreasonable to employ someone who is 52 years old as a civil servant. How many years will they work before retirement?” He emphasized the need for future employment to be fair and beneficial for the long-term development of the state.

Moreover, Governor Fubara reassured the public that his administration remains committed to maintaining a strong social contract with the people of Rivers State. He urged service providers with the Rivers State Waste Management Agency to enhance their efforts to keep the city clean.

Represented by Dr. George Nwaeke, Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Fubara addressed the RIWAMA Service Providers Association during their Solidarity Walk to the Government House Gate in Port Harcourt, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to effective and transparent governance.
