Gombe Easter Monday Truck Attack Was Deliberate — Government Panel

A panel established by the Gombe State Government has concluded that the tragic Easter Monday incident in Biliri, where a truck plowed into a Christian procession, was a deliberate act by the driver. This finding contradicts earlier assumptions that the crash was caused by mechanical failure.

The ad-hoc committee, which included representatives from both Christian and Muslim communities, was formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident that claimed six lives and left dozens injured. Speaking on the outcome of the investigation, committee chairman Rambi Ayala stated that the driver “carelessly rammed into the last batch of Christians participating in the Easter procession,” causing multiple fatalities and severe injuries.

The panel confirmed that 36 people were affected, with 18 currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital and the Specialist Hospital in Gombe. The deceased were identified as Grace David, Clement Lakason, Ephraim Ibrahim, Faida P. Uslas, Rejoice Mela, and Praise Ayuba.

In its recommendations, the committee urged the state government to invest in improved emergency healthcare infrastructure, including the construction or renovation of general hospitals to better handle future crises. Ayala commended the prompt response from government agencies and encouraged continued unity among citizens in the aftermath of the tragedy.
