AFCON U17: Golden Eaglets Suffer First Defeat In Algeria
Two-time African Champions, Golden Eaglet of Nigeria have suffered their first defeat at the 2023 U17 AFCON in Algeria, after losing 1 nil to Morroco.
Nigeria’s centre-back Tochukwu Ogboji, diverted the ball into his net after he failed to clear a cross from Abdel Hamid Maali of Morroco in the second minute, in a game that was largely dominated by the Nigerian side.
Morroco joined Senegal to become the second team to book a place in the knock-out stage of the tournament, having secured maximum points from their opening two matches, while Nigeria must avoid a defeat against South Africa in the final group game, to have any hope of making it to the quarter-final stage.
Meanwhile, despite ending up on a losing side, Golden Eagles defender Yahaya Lawali was voted the Most Valuable Player, MVP of the match.
The young defender has now won, back-to-back, MVP awards after the first one against Zambia.
