Geometric Power’s Aba Subsidiary to Begin Supplying Electricity this Weekend

Aba Power Ltd, a subsidiary of Geometric Power, is set to commence commercial operations this weekend, surpassing its original schedule by two weeks. The company, with its 188 Megawatt thermal plant, is geared to supply power from one of its three turbines to consumers in the Aba Ring-fenced Area.

Originally slated for commercial customer supplies 13 days post-commissioning, sources reveal that Chairman Professor Bart Nnaji, a former Minister of Power, has expedited the process, directing utility engineers to ensure power delivery “without fail this weekend.”

Vice President Kassim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, officially commissioned the Geometric Power facility in the Osisioma Industrial Layout in Aba, Abia State. The facility, consisting of three turbines built by General Electric, is expected to significantly boost power supply to the region.

Professor Nnaji’s proactive approach has prompted the National Control Centre officials to advance their inspection, originally scheduled for the next week, showcasing his influential network in expediting technical requirements.

The first turbine, with a capacity of 47MW, is set to nearly double the current power supply of 25MW received by Aba Metropolis and the surrounding areas through the national grid. According to Engineer Cliff Eneh, an energy consultant, the second turbine will further enhance power supply to the Aba Ring-fenced Area, meeting energy demands and stabilizing the region’s power grid.

Noteworthy firms like Neimeth Pharmaceuticals Plc have expressed interest in relocating their manufacturing plants to Aba, anticipating improved electricity conditions. Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu has highlighted the Geometric Power group as a potential business model for the broader development of Nigeria’s power sector, emphasizing the need for state-of-the-art facilities and integrated electricity groups like Geometric Power.
