Gbajabiamila’s security aide shooting: Widow of vendor disowns family claims of N500m

The widow of the newspaper vendor shot dead by an operative of the Department of State Services, DSS, attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Josephine Okereke, has disowned her husband’s family over the demand for 500 million naira as compensation from the Speaker.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, the widow of the deceased said that none of the family members informed or sought her consent before embarking on any action.

The family of Ifeanyichukwu Okereke had through Mike Ozekhome, SAN, written to the House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, demanding 500 million Naira as compensation for the death of their son, Ifeanyichukwu.

Ozekhome had in a letter dated November 23, 2020, said he was given the mandate to write the letter by the father of the deceased, Okorie Okereke, and the younger brother to the deceased, Destiny Okereke.

The widow, however, said that she was not aware of the pre-litigation process and urged the Speaker to ignore the family but rather just fulfill his promises to her and her two children.

While noting that nothing could bring her late husband back to life, the widow expressed gratitude to the House Speaker for all steps taken so far since the unfortunate incident.

She also thanked the Speaker for promising to ensure that her late husband gets justice in the matter.
