G60 Lawmakers Criticize PDP Leaders for Silence on Rivers, Kano Crises
In a stern rebuke directed at opposition governors and leaders, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the spokesperson for the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers in the House of Representatives, known as the G60, expressed dismay over their silence amidst the ongoing crises in Rivers and Kano States.
Hon. Ugochinyere, addressing Parliamentary Correspondents, highlighted the absence of solidarity visits by opposition governors to their colleagues in Rivers, Governor Similanayi Fubara, and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf. He criticized the lack of proactive measures to address the crises, attributing the stagnation to internal political conflicts and a failure to take decisive action against destabilizing elements.
The spokesperson drew attention to former presidential aspirant and current FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of exacerbating internal party strife since 2022 without facing appropriate sanctions. He lamented the impact of these conflicts on the opposition’s cohesion and effectiveness, urging the PDP to lead by example in restoring unity and purpose.
Ugochinyere underscored the urgency of decisive leadership within the opposition ranks, asserting that complacency and inaction would only serve to weaken the party’s stance against the ruling APC. He criticized opposition governors for hesitating to confront challenges head-on, particularly in defense of party interests in states like Kano and Rivers.
“The ongoing crisis in Kano and Rivers should galvanize our opposition governors into action, not retreat,” Ugochinyere declared, urging a return to the assertive leadership that historically fueled successful political battles.
He concluded by warning against the repercussions of a compromised opposition, stressing the critical need for a unified and resolute leadership to navigate the current political landscape.
