G-5 Faces Internal Strife as Governor Makinde Disassociates from Port Harcourt Declaration

 

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has distanced himself from the G-5 Governors’ reported endorsement of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential aspirations. The statement was originally attributed to former Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, during a gathering in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Governor Makinde, addressing the issue, deemed discussions on the 2027 Presidential Election premature and inappropriate, emphasizing his commitment to delivering effective governance to the citizens. He expressed surprise and embarrassment at learning about the alleged declaration through the media, with no prior consultation.

Sources from the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State, revealed that Governor Makinde was notably absent from the Port Harcourt meeting, raising questions about the authenticity of the declaration. An anonymous insider clarified that the former Benue Governor’s remarks did not represent the collective stance of the G-5 Governors but reflected his personal views.

The source urged the public to disregard the purported declaration, asserting that such a significant decision should be a collective one rather than an individual’s personal stance.
