Fubara Returns from Overseas Trip, Attends Armed Forces Remembrance Day Service
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara returned to Port Harcourt over the weekend following an undisclosed trip abroad. He attended a church service on Sunday at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church to observe the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Governor Fubara was joined by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and other senior state officials. The service honored Nigerian military personnel who have lost their lives in service, with prayers offered for both the fallen and those currently on duty.
This marked the first public appearance of Fubara and his deputy since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against the governor last Thursday. This is the third attempt to remove him from office in less than three years.
Despite the renewed political tension, the governor’s office has not commented on the allegations of misconduct cited by the state legislature. Sources quoted by the Punch Online said that Fubara traveled abroad on Thursday via private jet, reportedly planning a meeting with former President Tinubu in France amid the impeachment process.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service remains a key annual event to honor Nigeria’s military and reinforce national unity.
