Fubara Invites Speaker Amaewhule, Lawmakers to Key Meeting in Port Harcourt
Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has extended a formal invitation to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other members of the Assembly for a critical meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The invitation, issued by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and dated March 7, is seen as a significant development in the state’s political landscape. Notably, this marks the first time the governor has officially referred to Amaewhule as Speaker, following a prolonged period of political tension.
The invitation follows Fubara’s March 5 letter acknowledging receipt of the Supreme Court’s judgment on the lingering political crisis in the state. According to the communication, the governor has directed that Amaewhule and the lawmakers attend a meeting scheduled for Monday, March 10, at 10 a.m.
Key issues listed for discussion include the provision of a suitable venue for Assembly sittings, payment of outstanding salaries and allowances, the presentation of the state budget, and other matters deemed crucial to the governance and progress of Rivers State.
