Former Delta Governor Uduaghan Rejoins APC, Pledges Support for State’s Development

Former Delta State governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has formally returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), receiving his membership card at his Warri GRA residence. The card, marked ‘Delta WRN//023/32001’, was presented by the APC Delta South Women Leader, Alero Tenumah, alongside the Chairman of Abigborodo Ward 6, George Ino, and other local party leaders. Uduaghan, who previously governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, expressed appreciation for the party’s show of solidarity and promised to work closely with stakeholders to drive development in the state.

Joining him in the political realignment is his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, the Delta State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Child Development, who also picked up her APC membership card from the same ward. Party leader Alero Tenumah encouraged all new members to actively support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, assuring Uduaghan of full collaboration to strengthen the party across Warri North and beyond.

Meanwhile, on the floor of the Senate in Abuja, Senator Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, officially defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC. His defection letter, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, cited deepening divisions and dysfunction within the NNPP as reasons for his departure. Sumaila referenced ongoing internal litigations, leadership conflicts, and fragmented authority as issues that have eroded the party’s cohesion and effectiveness.

Following the announcement, APC senators welcomed Sumaila warmly, escorting him to his new seat among the majority party. With this defection, the APC now holds 65 seats in the Senate, followed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 33, Labour Party (LP) with five, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with two, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with one. Two Senate seats remain vacant.
