Bwala Slams Opposition Coalition Talk, Cites Lack of Interest from Key Political Leaders

In a statement on X, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, has dismissed rumors of a rising political coalition set to challenge the current administration. He described the ongoing speculation as a “political hallucination” and firmly stated that there is no interest from major political figures or institutions in forming such an alliance.

Bwala emphasized that key political players, including the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and figures from the Labour Party, have expressed clear disinterest in any coalition efforts. He pointed out that both the PDP Governors’ Forum and its National Working Committee have distanced themselves from such discussions, while Labour Party leader Peter Obi has also dismissed any involvement in coalition talks.

At the same time, Bwala highlighted the strengthening of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting the party’s recent success in attracting high-profile defectors, including former members of the PDP and other opposition figures. He stressed that the APC’s growing influence is a clear sign of its political dominance, which he described as far from a coalition, but rather as an ongoing political reality.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who secured second place in the 2023 presidential election, has continued to express his commitment to leading a strong opposition against the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections. Despite this, the opposition faces significant challenges, not only from rival parties but also from disillusioned figures within the APC itself.

Among these disenchanted figures are former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. El-Rufai, after leaving the APC and joining the Social Democratic Party, has openly criticized the Tinubu administration and called for a united front to remove the APC in the next election cycle.
