Florida Mansion: ‘Arrest Wike if He Accompanies Tinubu to UNGA,’ Sowore Tells U.S. Government
Human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has intensified his calls for legal action against Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, over alleged money laundering and illegal property acquisitions in the United States.
In a fresh post on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore said Wike should be arrested under U.S. law if he travels with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“If Nyesom Ezenwo Wike follows Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the United Nations General Assembly, he must be arrested to face Florida’s money laundering charges as well as federal indictments for money laundering and asset trafficking,” Sowore wrote.
The activist claimed Wike’s alleged financial dealings fall within the scope of the **Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative**, a program of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) designed to trace and recover assets laundered into or through the U.S. by corrupt foreign officials.
According to Sowore, Wike used the names of his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, and their children to conceal ownership of luxury mansions in Florida. He described the arrangement as a “textbook example of laundering proceeds of crime,” adding that such properties should be seized and Wike indicted under both Florida’s anti-money laundering statutes and U.S. federal law.
Sowore’s latest call follows his earlier demand that Florida authorities probe Wike over a multimillion-dollar mansion allegedly purchased in cash. He argued that the minister’s activities abroad mirror the controversial land acquisitions he has been accused of in Abuja.
