Five Killed in Collision Involving APC Campaign Vehicle in Edo
Five people have tragically lost their lives in a fatal road accident on the Warrake-Afuze road in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. The incident, which occurred when a campaign vehicle belonging to All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Monday Okpebholo collided with a private car, has deeply shocked the community.
According to reports from DAILY POST, the victims were returning from a burial ceremony when the crash occurred. One of the deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Edionwe. Four of the deceased were taken to the Edo State University, Uzaurie Mortuary, located in Etsako West Local Government Area. The fifth victim passed away at the Irrua Specialist Hospital, where he was transferred for specialist care.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the accident happened when the APC campaign vehicle, which was transporting musical equipment and traveling from Auchi to Afuze, rammed into the silver Camry Sedan carrying the victims. The collision occurred as the Camry attempted to negotiate a sharp bend, with many attributing the crash to poor driving.
A relative of Emmanuel Edionwe, speaking anonymously, expressed their devastation: “We are heartbroken. Emmanuel was a kind and easygoing person who did not deserve this. After the collision, we learned that five people in the Camry died, with only one surviving and currently in critical condition.”
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials were involved in the evacuation of the bodies from the scene. Initially, reports suggested that five individuals had died, but Edo State FRSC Sector Commander Matthew Cyril Zango later confirmed that only two fatalities were officially recorded. Zango clarified that the APC campaign vehicles were traveling from Auchi to Afuze when the incident occurred.
The FRSC is still awaiting further updates from the Afuze unit commander regarding the accident.
