Borno Flood: Dangote Pledges N2 Billion Support, Calls for Corporate Assistance
Business magnate and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has pledged a donation of N2 billion to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State. This commitment includes N1 billion from the Presidential Committee on Flood and Disaster, which Dangote chairs, and an additional N1 billion from the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
During a visit to Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Friday, Dangote expressed deep concern over the scale of devastation caused by the flood, calling it a “mind-boggling” disaster. He acknowledged the severe damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods, noting that it would take considerable time and effort to restore normalcy.
“It’s really overwhelming. Most of the houses have been submerged, and their foundations weakened. I think it will take weeks, if not longer, for the situation to improve,” Dangote said during his visit.
While announcing the donation, Dangote also urged other corporate entities across Nigeria to join in supporting the Borno State Government in its efforts to address the aftermath of the flood. He emphasized that the government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of rebuilding and alleviating the suffering of those affected.
“I am calling on all Corporate Nigerians to rise up and support because the government cannot do it alone. We need to ensure that people do not continue to suffer,” Dangote urged.
Governor Zulum, in response, expressed his gratitude to Alhaji Dangote for his continued support to the people of Borno, especially during such a difficult time.
