First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Asserts: “At 60, I’m Too Old to Fear Death”

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, aged 60, has proclaimed her lack of fear towards death. She made this statement during her visit to the palace of Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, on Tuesday.

The purpose of her visit was to commission an Alternative High School and ICT center. However, discussions veered towards a concerning incident involving a cleric, Sunusi Abubakar, who had issued a death threat against Mrs. Tinubu.

In a widely circulated video, the cleric had labeled her an infidel deserving of death, a statement he later retracted amidst nationwide outrage.

Addressing the issue at the palace, the First Lady remarked, “I want to thank His Excellency for assuring me of my safety, but I firmly believe that at the age of 60, I shouldn’t be afraid of death. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and now, more than ever, is the time for unity.”

She continued, “Nigeria needs prayers, and we trust that God will answer them. Today, I am here to fulfill my official duties and extend my royal respects to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, for the warm reception we have received.”

Earlier, Governor Bala Mohammed expressed apologies to the President’s wife on behalf of the people of Bauchi. He praised her courage in the face of adversity and reassured her safety.

He stated, “Your courage in visiting Bauchi despite the threats against you exemplifies the unity and strength of our nation. We apologize for the national embarrassment caused by the individual who threatened you, and we assure you that such incidents will not recur.”
