Financial Setback Hits Super Eagles as Central Bank Delays AFCON 2023 Bonuses
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) faces financial challenges as the Central Bank delays the release of funds earmarked for the payment of Super Eagles’ bonuses and allowances during the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the Federal Government approving the allocated funds prior to the commencement of the competition, SCORENigeria reports that the NFF has yet to receive any payment from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Each Super Eagles player is entitled to a $5,000 bonus for a victory, coupled with a daily camp allowance of $200 per player. The players are anticipated to receive $12,500 each for the two wins and a draw achieved during the group stage.
With the Round of 16 clash against perennial rivals Cameroon scheduled at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan today, the delay in the payment of bonuses and allowances adds an unexpected layer of tension to the Super Eagles’ campaign in the AFCON 2023.
