FG Unveils Requirements for Accessing Subsidized 50kg Rice at N40,000

The Federal Government has outlined the necessary steps for citizens to access a 50kg bag of milled rice at the subsidized price of N40,000.

To participate in this program, individuals must present their National Identification Number (NIN), a valid ID card, and an ATM card to complete the registration and payment process. Following this, beneficiaries will undergo a verification process conducted by government officials to ensure transparency before receiving their rice allocation.

In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, citizens are directed to visit the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) with the necessary documents for registration. Upon successful documentation and payment, rice collection will take place at the Central Business Area, near the First Bank branch by NNPC Towers.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, acknowledged the potential challenges of distributing such a critical staple during a time of widespread hunger. He assured the public that the government is taking significant steps to ensure transparency and broad access. “The Federal Government has deployed a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure the success of this initiative,” Kyari stated.

To curb fraud, the government has limited the purchase to one bag per person, with verification via NIN and phone numbers. The Minister also highlighted that the distribution of 30,000 metric tons of rice—equivalent to 1,000 trucks—into the national food supply would help stabilize rice prices and benefit other essential food items.

The rice will be distributed nationwide, but citizens must provide the required documents to make a purchase and benefit from the subsidy program.
