FG May Use Courts to Frustrate ADC’s Momentum Ahead of 2027 – David Mark

Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has warned of an alleged plot by the current administration to use the judiciary as a tool to undermine the party’s growing influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Abuja during a strategic meeting with the ADC National Legal Support Group, Mark expressed concern over what he described as possible legal sabotage aimed at halting the party’s momentum. The Legal Support Group, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman, announced that 310 lawyers have already volunteered to defend the party in all ongoing and future legal matters across Nigeria.

Abdurrahman said the legal team has full representation in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory and is ready to address any legal challenges. He named key figures in the team including the ADC’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Peter Oyewole; former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN); and former Edo State Governor and legal scholar, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

“We are prepared to handle any case that may arise against ADC anywhere in the country,” Abdurrahman said, while also praising Senator Mark’s integrity and leadership. He called for full collaboration from the party’s legal department to support the team’s efforts.

Responding, Barrister Oyewole assured the group that all legal protocols relating to the recent coalition that formed the new ADC were strictly followed. “There is no cause for alarm,” he stated.

Despite the assurances, Senator Mark expressed caution. “ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our momentum,” he said, urging Nigerians to back the ADC as a credible alternative for national leadership.

Mark lauded the commitment of the legal team and encouraged them to remain alert and proactive as the party positions itself as a serious contender in the next general elections. With a growing grassroots presence and a solid legal structure, the ADC says it is ready to defend its vision and fully engage in the 2027 political contest.
