FCT Police to Impound Vehicles Without Registration Numbers in Crackdown on ‘One-Chance’ Robberies

The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have announced that they will begin impounding vehicles without registration numbers or those with defaced or single number plates as part of efforts to tackle “one-chance” robberies. In a statement on Tuesday, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the force would also enforce regulations regarding covered number plates and tinted glasses.

Adeh explained that additional personnel and equipment would be deployed across the territory to enhance patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance. The goal of these actions is to address the rising incidents of “one-chance” crimes, as well as car theft.

While acknowledging that these measures might cause some inconvenience, Adeh assured the public that they reflect the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of FCT residents and curbing criminal activities targeting motorists and passengers. Since the implementation of these operations, the police have successfully recovered stolen vehicles and arrested suspects involved in “one-chance” robberies.

The FCT Police Command has urged vehicle owners to ensure that their cars comply with all registration and number plate regulations and called on residents to report any suspicious activity to help maintain a secure environment for all.
