Father, Son Allegedly Poisoned to Death in Ebonyi
A tragic incident occurred at Ebebe Junction in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, where a man identified as Uncle Light and his son, Miracle, were allegedly poisoned to death.
According to residents, the victims had been living with a woman who reportedly moved in with Uncle Light after separating from her husband earlier this year. The woman is suspected of poisoning the food they consumed. A local resident, speaking anonymously, said the woman left the house early that morning with her baby and had not been seen since. “Since the incident happened on Wednesday, we haven’t seen the woman. She left early in the morning with her baby while abandoning the man and his son here. We don’t know what they ate that made them start vomiting,” the resident said.
Witnesses described a disturbing scene, with the man found lying naked inside the house and his son discovered unconscious at the gate. “We need help for them to be evacuated to the hospital before they start smelling,” a concerned resident added.
Police operatives later arrived at the scene accompanied by a man who identified himself as the woman’s brother. He informed authorities that his sister was ill and currently in custody. Another resident recounted hearing loud noises during the night but initially mistook it for a church gathering. “It was early in the morning that we saw the son struggling and writhing in pain outside the gate,” he said. “He was crying for water. A friend provided him with water before he suddenly died. We are suspecting diarrhoea, but it’s for an autopsy to confirm what killed him.”
The police have evacuated the bodies as investigations continue.
