Father of Jilted Lover Stabs Son’s Rival to Death Two Days After Wedding
A tragic incident has unfolded in Manigi village, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, where a man, enraged over his son’s heartbreak, allegedly stabbed a police inspector to death. The suspect, Alhaji Sabo Manigi, reportedly attacked Inspector Nasiru Musa just two days after he married a woman who had previously been in a relationship with Manigi’s son.
According to sources, both Inspector Musa and Manigi’s son had been involved with the same woman. However, when the woman’s parents asked her to choose between the two, she opted to marry Musa. The couple tied the knot on a Saturday, but the rejected suitor, devastated by the decision, reportedly fainted upon hearing the news.
The attack occurred as Inspector Musa was returning from work with a friend. Witnesses say Manigi confronted him, stating that his son had been in distress since losing the woman and blaming Musa for the heartbreak. What began as a verbal exchange quickly turned violent when Manigi suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the inspector in the stomach.
One of Musa’s friends, who witnessed the attack, ran to call for help. The injured officer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Bida, where he underwent surgery and initially showed signs of recovery. However, around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, he suffered severe bleeding and succumbed to his injuries.
Confirming the incident, Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the suspect fled the scene, but efforts were ongoing to apprehend him. Authorities have launched an investigation into the killing.
