Famous Abuja DJ Ambushed, Killed by Armed Men
Renowned Abuja Disk Jockey Bashiru Bello, popularly known as DJ Bash of Club Volcano in Gwarimpa, Abuja, was killed by armed men on Friday night. The incident occurred after DJ Bash had performed at a well-attended TGIF party celebrating the NYSC Batch B ‘Passing Out’ ceremony.
Mohammed Bello, DJ Bash’s older brother and a fellow employee at the nightclub, provided a detailed account of the incident during an interview with Premium Times. According to Mohammed, DJ Bash, along with two other DJs who also served as managers, had just finished their shift and were waiting for the sales to be tallied when the attack happened.
“A colleague who went out for water saw someone with a machete pushing the door. When he returned, the armed individual forced the door open and entered,” Mohammed recalled. The situation escalated as another assailant armed with a gun joined in, speaking in Hausa and demanding cell phones while ordering everyone to lie down.
The assailants burglarized the club, and during the chaos, one of the robbers ordered his accomplice to shoot. Mohammed recounted the harrowing moment he discovered his brother had been shot after the robbers fled. Despite their efforts to rush DJ Bash to the hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The situation worsened when the robbers returned, continuing their assault on the club. Mohammed described narrowly dodging a stone thrown at him while seeking help. Eventually, a police vehicle was used to transport DJ Bash to the hospital, but it was too late. The family buried DJ Bash in Kaduna on Saturday.
Witnesses corroborated the account, describing the raid by over twenty armed robbers wielding guns, machetes, and other dangerous weapons. Friday Odoh, a club employee, mentioned that DJ Bash was the only fatality, while others sustained injuries.
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. She urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
Fans have taken to social media to mourn the loss of DJ Bash, leaving messages of condolence on his Instagram page.
