Fake ‘Obi of Lagos’ Arrested as Police Stop N1.5 Billion Palace Ceremony
The Lagos State Police Command has foiled an attempt to unlawfully install a self-proclaimed “Obi of Lagos” and unveil a N1.5 billion palace in Amuwo Odofin, arresting four individuals in connection with the scheme. The planned event, which was scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin, was intended to mark the first Ofala/New Yam festival.
The suspects arrested include Engr. Chibuike Azubike, 65, from Obodoukwu, Imo State; Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57; Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65; and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41. Acting on intelligence, the police sealed off the venue to prevent public disturbance and protect citizens from being deceived. Tactical teams, including the Eko Strike Force, were deployed to ensure the event did not proceed.
Under the Obas and Chiefs Law of Lagos State (2015), unauthorized use of traditional titles is prohibited, and violations can result in legal action. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against individuals who seek to exploit cultural institutions for personal gain.
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face charges in court.
