Explosion Reported in Ikeja Cantonment, Nigerian Army Assures Public
The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion near the Mammy Market within the Ikeja Cantonment in Lagos. According to a statement by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the explosion is suspected to have been caused by the burning of refuse and other inflammable debris by a farmer on a nearby farmland. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from the incident.
Despite recent clearance and certification of the cantonment as free of unexploded ordnances, concerns have arisen among the public due to past explosions within the area. Major General Nwachukwu assured the public that the situation is under control. The Army’s Engineers Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has cordoned off the area of the farmland to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Residents in the vicinity are urged not to panic, as the Army assures them of their safety. The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion.
