Air Peace CEO Exposes Attempted Airport Restrictions on London Maiden Flight

In a revelation during an interview on The Morning Show, Air Peace CEO, Dr. Allen Onyema, disclosed a troubling incident upon the return of the airline’s maiden flight from London. Onyema detailed how some Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) personnel attempted to limit the landing of the flight to a rejected area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, far from the new terminal.

This action, if successful, would have subjected passengers to significant difficulties, requiring up to nine hours to reach the terminal building. Onyema expressed concern over the decision to keep gate C-23 at the new terminal inactive, allegedly reserving it for a foreign carrier instead of accommodating an indigenous airline like Air Peace.

Onyema condemned what he described as “wickedness in the system,” highlighting the challenges faced by international carriers operating in Nigeria. Despite the availability of gate C-23, the airline was directed to park in an obscure area near the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO), far from the terminal. He emphasized the disparity in treatment between Nigerian and foreign carriers, expressing concern over the impact on passenger experience and the reputation of Air Peace.

The incident underscores broader issues within Nigeria’s aviation sector, raising questions about fairness and transparency in airport operations. As Air Peace continues to expand its international operations, such challenges highlight the need for improved collaboration between airlines and airport authorities to ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers.
