Explosion at Ogun Steel Company Leaves Seven Critically Injured; Immediate Closure Ordered by State Government
On Sunday evening, a gas explosion at a steel company in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government Area in Ogun State has left at least seven people critically injured. The explosion significantly impacted the entire production line of the company, prompting swift action from the state government.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, who visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, declared the immediate closure of the iron rod manufacturing company. While the cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time, Commissioner Oresanya expressed determination to investigate the incident thoroughly.
Addressing the press during his visit, Commissioner Oresanya emphasized, “Under the rule of engagement with all the industries in the state, we will carry out a thorough investigation on the remote and immediate causes of the explosion with a view of preventing future occurrence.”
He further outlined the investigation’s focus on determining the conditions under which the company can operate safely, ensuring the protection of its workers and the properties of the affected communities.
In response to the emergency, the management of the company swiftly transported all injured victims to a nearby hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The state government’s closure order aims to prioritize public safety and prevent further incidents while investigations are underway.
