Explosion at Abuja School Claims One Life, Injures Four
A tragic explosion occurred at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, a suburb of Abuja, killing one student and leaving four others injured. The incident, which happened around noon on Monday, has drawn the attention of emergency responders and security operatives, including the police bomb disposal squad.
The injured students have been taken to a hospital for treatment, while the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. A security source revealed that the deceased student, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly carrying a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) when it detonated. The explosion caused chaos at the school, which is located approximately 42 kilometers from the Abuja city center.
Authorities at the school have not yet commented on the incident, and multiple attempts to reach Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, were unsuccessful. The affected students were reportedly new enrollees who had resumed classes on January 3, 2025.
Further details about the explosion are expected as investigations continue.
