“Existing Political Order Must End” — Aregbesola as PDP, LP Stakeholders Join ADC in Lagos

Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior and interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that Nigeria’s political establishment has failed and must be dismantled for a new people-centered system to emerge.

Aregbesola made the statement on Saturday in Lagos while welcoming stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and other groups into the ADC coalition.

Quoting the late Obafemi Awolowo and drawing from the Hegelian theory of dialectics, he said the country is approaching a turning point.

> “The existing political order will inevitably be confronted by its antithesis and give way to a new system. The cost of living is so high that starvation is literally stalking the land. Any government that does not prioritise the wellbeing of its people will soon lose relevance and collapse,” Aregbesola warned.

The former Osun governor cited worsening insecurity, rising drug prices and economic hardship as evidence of the urgent need for a new political force.

“There is a limit to how much the people can be squeezed before something eventually gives. This is why our intervention has become absolutely necessary. We must act now to save the nation,” he added.

Referencing the 2023 presidential election where President Bola Tinubu lost Lagos, Aregbesola said the ADC has proven its strength.

“What we did in Lagos is still unbeatable. We defeated a candidate against all odds. I am encouraged by the enthusiasm of politicians and citizens joining our fold,” he said.

The Lagos event is part of the ADC’s mobilisation drive as the opposition coalition rallies under the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
