“You’re Collecting Salaries But Can’t Defend Government, We’ll Come For You” — Oyebanji Warns Appointees
Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has criticized some of his political appointees for failing to defend his administration on social media, despite receiving salaries from the government.
In a viral video circulating online, the governor accused certain aides of being disloyal and playing double roles. According to him, while government critics dominate online conversations, some of his appointees prefer to stay silent, even on platforms where his administration is being attacked.
“We need to seize the social media space. It’s not as if they’re winning the battle, but some of you, my appointees, because you’re eating from both sides, cannot even come out and defend the government. Very few of you will be on platforms where they’re attacking us, and you will keep mute,” Oyebanji said.
He further warned that those who continue to remain indifferent would be sanctioned. “You’re collecting salaries every month. I’m marking them one by one. Be rest assured, those of you on the platforms where they’re dragging us and you kept quiet while collecting money from this administration, we will come for you at the appropriate time.”
The remarks come as political attention in Ekiti begins to build ahead of the 2026 governorship election. Prominent figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have already thrown their weight behind Oyebanji’s reelection bid. Among those backing him is former Governor Ayodele Fayose of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has openly expressed confidence in Oyebanji’s leadership and called for his continuation beyond 2026.
