Escape from Terror: Kaduna School Abduction Survivor Details Harrowing Ordeal
As reported by SK Blog, terrorists had raided LGEA Primary School, Kuriga (1) in Kaduna State, abducting numerous pupils and teachers. Among the abducted, Mustapha Abubakar, a student from Kuriga, shared a gripping account of his escape.
The horrifying event happened around 8:20 am, shortly after the morning assembly, as gunmen shot indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee for safety. Abubakar, one of the 27 children who managed to escape out of over 200, recounted his traumatic experience to BBC Hausa.
Walking like cattle through forests and deserts, the young survivors were led by the kidnappers. Abubakar described the arduous journey, where thirst and exhaustion plagued the group, with some girls collapsing due to fatigue. The bandits, lacking provisions themselves, offered no food or water to the captives.
Abubakar revealed a critical moment when a hovering plane prompted the bandits to order the children to strip and lie down. Determined to escape, Abubakar seized an opportunity during a silent interval, hiding in a shrub and crawling like a snake until he reached safety.
Upon encountering an elderly man, Abubakar sought directions to the main road, ultimately reaching the nearby community of Gayan, marking his triumphant escape. Meanwhile, parents and relatives of the remaining abducted students plead for government intervention, urging both the Kaduna state and federal governments to secure the release of their loved ones.
The recent attack in Kuriga village underscores the escalating security crisis in Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions. Schools have become frequent targets for gunmen, exacerbating the kidnapping epidemic and necessitating urgent government action to safeguard the nation’s education system.
