Enugu State Police Arrest 92 Suspects, Rescue 12 Kidnap Victims in One Month
The Enugu State Police command announced yesterday that they have apprehended 92 suspects involved in various crimes and successfully rescued 12 kidnap victims. These significant achievements occurred within just one month of CP Kanayo Uzuegbu’s assumption of office as the Commissioner of Police for the Enugu command.
Commissioner Uzuegbu revealed these remarkable developments during his inaugural press briefing and the subsequent parade of the apprehended suspects at the command headquarters. The suspects were apprehended for a range of offenses including kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, rape, subversive criminal activities, conspiracy, and other related crimes.
The Commissioner detailed the impressive haul of exhibits recovered from the suspects, which included four AK-47 rifles, 66 firearms of varying calibers, 333 live ammunition rounds of different calibers, 25 vehicles, and various other incriminating items.
Uzuegbu emphasized that these accomplishments were aligned with the policing vision and mission set forth by the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Enugu State Police command to address both existing and emerging security challenges within the state using effective policing strategies.
Commissioner Uzuegbu stated, “There is no doubt that the task of effectively policing our society is daily becoming daunting. However, I have since my assumption of duty, ensured that the right policing strategies are devised to tackle existing and emerging security challenges in the state. These strategies are subsumed in my grassroots-driven, proactive, people-oriented, and problem-solving policing thrust.”
He continued by highlighting the tangible progress made in combating violent crimes, such as kidnapping and armed robbery, as well as subversive criminal activities. While acknowledging the impossibility of completely eradicating crime from society, Uzuegbu reassured the people of Enugu State and its visitors that the police command remained committed to maintaining maximum security and tranquility in the state.
The Commissioner concluded, “I want to state without ambiguity that negative insinuations on the security situations in Enugu State are false and unfounded. I, therefore, make bold to say that the state remains peaceful and a safe haven for visitors and investors to come and meaningfully carry out their lawful businesses.”
