Enugu Govt Places ₦10m Bounty on Gunmen Behind Priest’s Death
The Enugu State Government has strongly condemned the killing of Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Eha-Ndiagu community, Ehalumona, along the Alumona-Eha Ndiagu road in Nsukka Local Government Area. In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the government described the attack as cowardly and cold-blooded. It announced a ₦10 million bounty for anyone who can provide credible information leading to the arrest of those behind the crime.
The government assured residents that the security of lives and property remains its top priority and vowed to deploy every available resource, including technology and intelligence gathering, to track down the killers and eliminate criminal activities in the state. It urged anyone with useful information to contact the authorities on 07077451426.
In its message of condolence, the government sympathized with the family of the late priest, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and the wider Catholic community, describing the killing as a painful loss. Rev. Fr. Eya, who hailed from Ugbaike in Enugu Ezike, Igboeze North Local Government Area, was murdered on Friday.
