Engr Doherty Chides Lagos State Government over pronouncement on State Institutions
The Leader of the Unity Freedom Group of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Lagos State while congratulating the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led Lagos State Government over the recent pronouncement on the upgrading of three of it’s higher institutions to universities also chided the government for the pronouncement, stating that it is ill-timed and unwarranted.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Government on Education, Hon Tokunbo Wahab had only recently announced that the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), has been upgraded to Lagos State University of Science and Technology, while the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education have both become Lagos State University of Education.
The leader of the Unity Freedom Group of the PDP in Lagos State, Engr Adedeji Doherty in an interview at his ikeja residence however chided the state government saying “though is this long overdue, it is however ill-timed and unwarranted at this period.”
Engr Doherty stated that during his 2007 governorship campaign, he had proposed that Lagos State was in dire need of nothing less than 8 higher institutions of learning (2 universities, 2 Polytechnics, 2 Colleges of Education and 2 Nursing Schools).
He noted that the ever rising youth population and indeed the total population of the state called for the establishment of the stated institutions.
He further said “It was also my desire way back then, to introduce 2 state of the art schools for the disable and physically challenged persons in the State.
He said “It is quite surprising that the APC led Government would come out to announce the upgrading of institutions.”
He reiterated that “Lagos State does not need repackaging of its institutions but the establishment of new and modern ones with state of the art facilities, that would meet the yearnings and challenges of today.”
Engr Doherty stated that the recent pronouncement are just confirmation of the backwardness and the anti-youth policies of the Lagos State Government since evolution from AC through ACN and now to APC.
He however warned all and sundry not to get carried away by the “Greek Gift” of the Lagos State Government as this is their “stock in trade” particularly when elections are drawing near.
He pointed out similar pronouncements in the past, like the Blue and Red monorails and the 4th Mainland Bridge projects that have not come into fruition ever after more that 15years.
He said the 2023 Elections are round the corner, no wonder the APC have started their trade of trying at hoodwinking unsuspecting Lagosians.
Engr Doherty said that the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and indeed the entire people of Lagos State are watching the APC led Government of Lagos State and would not fall again for their usual gimmicks.
