Engineer, Five Others Sentenced for Internet Fraud
At the Federal High Court in Ilorin, Civil Engineer Abeeb Uthman Jasola and five accomplices have been handed prison sentences for their involvement in internet fraud and money laundering activities. The sentencing, handed down by Justice Evelyn Anyadike and Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against cyber-related crimes.
Abeeb Uthman Jasola, along with Oladimeji Abubakar Oseni and Victor Anuoluwapo Kayode, faced charges brought forth by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The trio pleaded guilty to various charges related to cybercrime and the retention of ill-gotten funds.
Additionally, Parakoyi Raihan Tobiloba, Morenikeji Mazeed Ayomide, and Solihu Abubakar Sodiq were also convicted for similar offences.
Justice Anyadike sentenced Jasola to six months’ imprisonment for his role in cyber fraud, with the option of a fine. The court further ordered the forfeiture of seized assets, including phones and a substantial sum of money, to the Federal Government.
In separate proceedings, Justice Ariwoola sentenced Tobiloba to a probationary period of six months, emphasizing strict conditions for good conduct and regular reporting to court officials.
These verdicts mark another successful chapter in the EFCC’s efforts to combat cybercrime across Nigeria, as part of ongoing operations targeting illicit financial activities.
